From the very opening track, there is no doubt that this maskandi album has what hits are made of and it only gets better and better with each track.
In the title track Wongilinda, Stallion explainstalks how every time he goes back home his old friends in KZN want him to take them with to Jozi. They imagine it to be a shining place of gold where everyone’s dreams come true. “Ziyawa eGoli!” (Jozi is where it’s all happening), they say. But through his own experiences he knows that this is not necessarily true and that Johannesburg has its own challenges.
Track 5 titled Wojabula ‘ma usaphila kulomhlaba is a beautiful song about the value of life. Stallion says that a lot of the people he grew up with are no longer alive, having fallen victim to all sorts of diseases such as HIV/AIDS. He says that modern medicine doesn’t seem to cure some of these ailments which are killing our people. As such we must be grateful for every day that we have to live.
Inganono (a gun) is a track through which Stallion relives the horrible ordeal he went through when one of his friends was shot right next to him, in full view of people. “One moment I was enjoying drinks with my fellows and the next an unknown man appears out of nowhere and opens fire right before my eyes,” he explains. He is appealing to people to be careful with guns because they are dangerous and have claimed many innocent lives.
Stallion not only composed all the songs but also produced the entire album. “I have recorded enough demos and worked with enough people to know how the recording process goes,” he says. Although he never went to a music school, Stallion is a talented and gifted musician and composer. “Music is just in me. It’s my gift,” he confesses.
The album will give fans further insight into Stallion’s life, his struggles and all that he’s been through. He has been in the industry long enough to know that it’s important for young people not to drop out of school but to educate themselves if they wish to pursue a career in music. From experience he can boldly say, “In this industry perseverance is the key, even when it seems you are not going anywhere.”
“Now I can see a way forward in my career!” he says excitedly. “I’m so excited I even have songs in mind for my next album,” he adds. Wonglinda is truly a maskandi masterpiece and music fans are advised to watch this space because Stallion has arrived!
