Esbedlela is a culmination of Lahlumlenze’s many years’ experience in the music industry, as a musician as well as a composer and producer. He not only composed all the tracks but also produced the album. As with his previous albums, Lahlumlenze always turns to his surroundings for inspiration. “I look at the world around me and see the things people do and experience. I draw inspiration from this and also look within me to see how best I can address issues from the platform I have as a musician,” he says.
Lahlumlenze wrote the title track Isibhedlela as a responseto the ordeal he has witnessed many parents face as a result of neglect by their own children. “Some children dump their sick parents in hospital and never come to visit them again. It’s very sad,” he explains.
He also sings about the plight of many unwanted babies. The track titled “Ungamlahli Umntwana Wakho,” talks about a phenomenon that has been making headlines nationally, that of innocent, unwanted babies being thrown away like garbage and worse still, being flushed down toilets and other gruesome attempts at murdering them. He feels that this is unnecessary as there are many welfare organizations that take care of unwanted babies.
Those who love maskandi as well as gospel will be thrilled with the inclusion of the S’yogiya, which is all about praising the Lord Jesus Christ.
Having produced various well established acts such as Thwalufu, Abafana Bakanogabisela and O President, there is no doubt that this album is sure to outdo its predecessors. “I know that the songs on this album are vibey and very catchy,” says Lahlumlenze. “People of all ages will delight in the songs on this album but they should not forget to pay attention to the meaningful lyrics as they are relevant to our society today.”
Isibhedlela is a remarkable come back for the muso and he is just as delighted to once again have something to offer his fans in appreciation of their support over the years.
