Their amazing vocal and musical talent combined with the experience and expertise of legendary maskandi musician Lahlumlenze (Sipho Nxumalo), has resulted in an incredible, maskandi album. Lahlumlenze has produced many top artists and Abafana Bakanogabisela is one of those he takes pride in.
The title track, Ugodo, talks about the difficulties that the two group members, Mthokozeni and Bongubuhle have faced since their father passed away in 2004. They say that things have changed a lot and that although they are still young, they now have no one to look after them.
Is Sheli tells the love story of one of the brothers who, after moving up toJohannesburg, falls in love with a certain young lady. Things, however, take a turn for the worst once people get involved. The lady’s friends discourage her from accepting his proposal because he doesn’t have lots of money or a fancy car. The song was written by their uncle Valinduku Xaba, who also worked extensively on the album.
Still on matters of the heart, Bongubuhle wrote a song titled Nomathemba. A young man in love, he is not afraid to wear his heart on his sleeve and in this song he expresses his affection for the love of his life, Nomathemba. “When I look at her I just want to do everything to make her happy,” he says beaming with pride.
They are dedicating this album to their late father who passed away in 2004, after having taught them the ins and outs of music. They are positive that their fans will love the album and they appreciate their continuous support.
This album is full of positive messages and fans are advised to get their dancing shoes on before attempting to listen to this album. Yet the soulful tracks are just as powerful and will get listeners in touch with the reality of the world we live in.
