Veliswa

Veliswa Skeyi, a lady who inhabits a notable and impressive combination of humility and talent, has come a far way since the conception of her music journey at age 10.

Even before her musical journey began, Veliswa began her Christian journey. Her and her four siblings were brought up in a God fearing household and her family attended the Assembly of God church together for as far back as she can remember.

Veliswa’s Christian journey led her down the path towards her musical career. Every night, her father would encourage her and her siblings to sing their favourite church hymn before they would pray together. The family would also sing together at special family occasions. She also joined her school choir, which subsequently made it to the provisional championships in a choral competition.

Her musical pathway is marked by many successes and interesting ventures along the way. 1991 saw Veliswa becoming a member of the choral group titled “Voices Unlimited” as an alto soloist. Four years later she joined “Indlalifa Zezulu” which falls under Assembly of God.

July 1996 marks one of Veliswa’s greatest musical milestones. It was then that she earned the position of lead vocalist in the successful gospel group Lord Comforters. The group churned out numerous well known hits such as “Noyana”, “Bless the Lord” and “Yizwa Indaba”

Late 2004 saw a difficult, yet exciting, veer in both Veliswa’s musical and Christian journey. Veliswa felt called to a solo career and joined Bula Music to pursue this calling. She subsequently released her first solo album with them on 14 February 2005, titled Dwala Lami.

Whilst everyone was anticipating a great response to the album, no-one foresaw that it would zip to platinum status as fast as it did. “Dwala Lami”, “Uphakeme” and “Jesus Is Coming” rapidly became gospel favourites throughout the country.

Mandilive is Veliswa’s latest offering. The album delivers soul-stirring and emotional messages through mainly upbeat tunes. Mandilive contains sixteen brilliant tracks, all delivered perfectly by Veliswa’s distinct deep and powerful voice.

Veliswa’s vision of service extends further than her music. She is not only a devoted wife and loving mother of two, but works full time at the Department of Social Welfare in the Eastern Cape.

Veliswa aims to spread the Good News through her music as well as to be a true example to all in her daily life. This depth and sincerity is evident in her music and coupled with her unique talent, make Mandilive one of the best gospel albums on the market.
